So my boy Doss hit me up a couple days ago asking if I could do a photoshoot of him and his boyz of KFP. I was excited to do a formal shoot as things have been kind of slow and low key lately. I had planned to be in midtown around 5:15pm. I got home about 4:45pm and grabbed my camera bag which I thought had everything in it. I checked my mail real quick and rushed out the door and headed to Walgreens to get some Red Bull for energy. Some folks drink Mountain Dew or coffee products but me, I drink Red Bull. Not diet Red Bull, just plain unedited (lol) Red Bull. So I arrive on Locust Street near EXO Lounge to meet up with KFP. I shook everyone's hand, handed a business card out and introduced myself.
SO, I'm ready to get started. I open my bag and noticed my camera felt kind of light. Now granted, the Sony Alpha 200 IS a lot lighter than the Sony Alpha 100 but this felt like paper. So I pop open the battery compartment and long and behold, the lithium ion battery was not inside. In a panic, I saw exactly where the battery was in my head. It was sitting ON the charger on my nightstand. I quickly let KFP know what happened and sped off into the sunset....
40 minutes later, I'm back on Locust Street to meet up with KFP. I program EVERYTHING in my blackberry, including the locations I wanted to visit for the shoot. However, what I did forget to do was to tag the locations if I had already used it. I'm not a big fan on utilizing the same locations. When you use the same locations, it's like wearing the same outfit more than once when out socializing. And if you're caught on camera, that's even worse. Come to find out, the location I was destined for was the same exact location I shot Nerdii Rockstars at. Pissed off but working against the setting sun and time, I settled in hopes that KFP would rock the "set" differently. And that they did.
So once we got done with the first set, 3 of the 4 members came along with me to the riverfront. There's this really cool grafitti wall and railroad tracks down that way. We moved swiftly towards the riverfront as dusk quickly approached. We found ourselves near the train tracks on the rusting towers that held up the oncoming locomotive trains. Playing around with different techniques soon became frustrating as I was losing my natural lighting. Thank goodness for flashesbut a flash box would have resolved this issue. We kind of clowned during the last part of the shoot as I shot candidly hoping to capture a glimpse of a smile. And indeed I did....
